Bit more About

"Rob Hodgson was born in a seaside town in the south of England in 1988. Today he lives in Bristol where he spends his days making a mess and turning it into quality illustration projects and books.

After studying illustration and working in a design studio for a few years, he released his first picture book, The Cave, in 2017. Since then, he’s published a small bookshelf more, with translations in over a dozen languages.

In 2019, The Cave was selected by Booktrust for their Time To Read campaign, who gave a free copy to every school starter in England.

Approaching his work with a curiosity about techniques, he’s just as likely to be found rummaging in the trash for unlikely materials as he is buried in a computer, experimenting with new digital processes.

Alongside books, he’s worked on games, toys, and packaging for select companies worldwide. He also spends time on weirder experiments — hand-making paper from nettles, building wooden contraptions, and creating projected interactive characters that respond to sound.

He draws inspiration from Yoko Ono, Spike Jonze, John Cage, Corita Kent, Vic & Bob, Ed Templeton, Arthur Russell and the contents of a recycling bin.

His work often explores play, texture, character design, interactivity, and the hidden world of nature.

Some interests include animals, skateboards, and eating bread."
